About Mike Stewart | Custom Water Feature Artisan

Mike Stewart is a water feature artisan with a natural talent for transforming stone and water into peaceful, one-of-a-kind works of art. For more than 20 years, he has designed and built custom water features, handcrafted stone fountains, garden waterfalls, and rock water features for homes, gardens, weddings, and outdoor spaces.

Mike’s passion for water began early in life, inspired by the serenity, movement, and natural beauty that a thoughtfully designed fountain can bring to a space. His work is influenced by the rugged landscapes of the Sierra Mountains and reflects his instinctive ability to see the unique character and hidden potential within every stone.

From his workshop in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Mike personally cuts, polishes, drills, and shapes the rocks used in his fountain designs. Many of his lava rocks are sourced from a quarry near Mount St. Helens, Washington. Every piece is handcrafted with close attention to quality, durability, and natural beauty.

As the founder of Creative WaterWorks and the Water Garden Shop, Mike creates custom fountains, DIY fountain kits, fountain rocks, birdbaths, water ornaments, and garden art. His designs have been refined and tested over many years, including an innovative water basin system and accessible water-control valve that make installation and maintenance easier for homeowners.

Mike’s work ranges from small backyard fountains to large-scale installations, including a remarkable 110-foot waterfall created for a wedding. Whether he is creating a simple garden fountain or an elaborate custom water feature, his goal is always the same: to bring peace, movement, wildlife, and a deeper connection to nature into the spaces people enjoy every day.

Mike lives in Ben Lomond, California, near Santa Cruz, with his wife and daughter. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Santa Cruz Mountains, he continues to create handcrafted water features that reflect his artistry, craftsmanship, and lifelong love of stone and water.
